The Plight of Punjabi Farmers

Indian Government Violently Attacks Farmers

India's Rapid Action Force, deployed by the Indian Government to stop the farmers from crossing bord

Background

India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has backtracked on his promises to pass policies that will help India's farmers make a living wage and keep their ancestral farmlands. The farmers rose up in 2020 to protest, but were violently blocked in their efforts by the Indian Government. Eventually, Prime Minister Modi gave in to their demands, but it appears this was only done on paper. In February, 2024, the farmers of Punjab were forced to rise up again and protest, however, they have been completely blocked from entering New Delhi. Worse, they have been violently attacked by India's police and militia.
