The Kuki-Zo

Tribal Christians in Northeast India

The Kuki-Zo are a tribal people who trace their history in India back to the First Century. Many of the Kuki-Zo in Manipur are Christians who have experienced increased persecution in recent years from their Hindu tribal neighbors. On May 3rd, 2023, riots broke out in Manipur, resulting in the deaths of many Kuki-Zo, as well as the destruction of their churches and homes. This has resulted in a humanitarian crisis, as an estimated 30,000 to 40,000 civilians have been forced to leave their homes.
